Weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. To play along answer the following 3 questions:
• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

I missed last week. It was the 4th of July. We woke up to the air conditioner not working so the house was sweltering. My reading slowed down the past 2 weeks. I only read 4 books in the past 2 weeks and am currently on chapter 3 of a new book. In June I read a total of 12 books so I think I was suffering from a bit of burnout.

Currently reading?
A Gentleman Undone by Cecilia Grant
This is Cecilia Grant’s 2nd book. Her first, A Lady Awakened, was excellent. I’m 3 chapters in so far and it is living up to my expectations.

Recently read?
Beguiling the Beauty by Sherry Thomas
Sherry Thomas has received high praise for her historical romance books. This was only the 2nd book by her that I have read. Her books tend to tackle subjects that I normally don’t read in historicals and aren’t fluff in anyway. What I liked most about this book was the Victorian period setting. I generally read historicals set in the Regency period so it is nice every now and then to break out of that mold. The writing in this book was engaging, but the romance suffered a bit for me. It was still a pretty good read.

Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas
This book followed Beguiling the Beauty. As soon as I read the blurb for this book I wanted to read it. It was so different from other books that I have read.

This book proved difficult for me to review. I started it late one night and stayed up and finished it in about 4 hours. Several times while reading I had to take a short break to collect myself because I kept crying. I felt so sad for the heroine of this book. I loved the heroine, but I didn’t love the romance. As a historical fiction I rated this a 4 star. With a different hero this book would have easily been a 5 star for me.

I also read Can’t Buy Me Love by Molly O’Keefe but was disappointed by it. I was so excited to start it, but in the end I didn’t care for the characters that much.

Reading next?
Including the book I’m currently reading and the last 2 I’ve been on a historical angst ridden streak. I think after I finish A Gentleman Undone, I will be in the mood for something that is complete fluff. I haven’t decided if it will be a historical or a Harlequin Presents yet.
